continue on down the line of veins.
find the biggest one you see
go inside, measuring the length
and depth.

exit quickly and cleanse your flesh
of all recollection of balancing
a knife across the wrist.

this pain
does not fade
this blood
is only memory
against the warm pressure of breath.
